About JIPMER
JIPMER was established as "Ecole de Medicine de Pondichery"by the French government in 1823. Government of India took over the college in 1956. The college was upgraded as a Regional Centre and named as Jawaharlal Institute of Post-graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) in 1964. It includes a tertiary care referral hospital. JIPMER campus us spread over 195 acres over a hilly terrain on the Western entrance of Pondicherry. The campus has most of the essential services located within its premises, including Post-Office, Bank, Shopping centre, Hostels, and Residential complex. There are over 150 teaching faculty and over 350 resident doctors in the institute. The institute is affiliated to Pondicherry University. JIPMER is a center for active research in various fields of modern medicine & health and medical education.
Admissions
Admission to the courses are made on all India basis though an entrance exam. Only 75 students are admitted every year, available to students as per reservations under different categories.
Eligibility
Students who are Indian nationals, aged 17 years on or before 1st July and passed Higher Secondary Examination (+2) under 10+2+3 pattern with 50% marks in English and 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together are eligible to appear in the Entrance Examination.
Examination Dates
JIPMER Entrance Examination is usually conducted on the second Sunday of June every year. The notification for the exam is expected soon and students must expect it to be published in leading news papers.
Syllabus
JIPMER does not prescribe any syllabus for our Entrance Examination. However, according to JIPMER website “it is based on CBSE syllabus for 11th and 12th standard”.
Examination Pattern
The examination consists of 200 multiple choice questions, of one best response type with four alternatives, equally distributed among English, Botany, Zoology, Physics and Chemistry. The evaluation is fully computerized. There is no negative marking.
